LLDD Partnerships – ACE Case Studies

In 2024, Education and Training Foundation (ETF) SEND Universal Services funded the production of three case studies to show how, when adult education providers work in partnership, it benefits learners with learning difficulties and disabilities (LLDD).

The project was led by Kathryn James and focused on ACE learning organisations who were doing innovative partnership work supporting learners with LDD.

These case study resources were not created by HOLEX, but are hosted here to showcase the work of three of our member organisations, and to enable access.

City Lit - LLDD - Case study (ETF)

This case study considers learnings and recommendations from City Lit, based on their highly successful creative arts courses at their Centre for Learning Disability Education in London. They recommend negotiating with learners to understand demand, employing highly skilled tutors and creating strong internal and external partnerships which take the learning out of the classroom, brings in different perspectives and expertise and enables the curriculum to grow.

BCP and Dorset - LLDD - Case study (ETF)

This case study considers how Skills & Learning Adult Community Education – the shared adult learning service for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and Dorset Council have focused on partnership working to increase engagement. The team have successfully engaged with local services for people with learning difficulties to consider unmet needs and to increase their offer, creating a demand-led directory of courses.

Essex - LLDD - Case study (ETF)

This case study considers the Supported Learning provision at Adult and Community Learning (ACL) Essex which provides courses specifically for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Their courses focus strongly on both personal growth and employment. Their partnerships have been invaluable, based on the expertise of their partners, and they recommend securing tutors who are confident to have difficult conversations, and creating a safe and non-judgemental environment to enable learners to flourish.
